This document explores the findings and policy recommendations resulting from the NADINE project's year-long research on unemployment among Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Vulnerable migrants (RAVs) in the EU. The study emphasizes the critical role of skills assessment in addressing the challenges faced by RAVs in integrating into the job market and proposes policy measures to bridge the gap between desired outcomes and actual results. The document also introduces the NADINE project's innovative approach, utilizing serious games and big-data technology for skills assessment, to contribute to reducing unemployment among RAVs.

This document contains the final policy brief for the NADINE project, task 10.2, deliverable 10.8. This includes an introduction to the research led by the NADINE team over the past year.

This paper proposes the creation of an international mechanism for creating collaborative partnerships between stakeholders such as scientists, NGOs, governments and foundations and the business community. The proposed mechanism Nature Resilience would initiate and organise 20 year, tailor-made Ecosystem Restoration Partnerships between companies and stakeholder groups, wherein the explicit goal would be the restoration of millions of hectares of land in cooperation with local people, farmers and NGOs, in a way that conforms with international established guidelines.

This report reviews the evidence which shows that, with properly designed measures, nature restoration actions can contribute to making farming systems more resilient and productive for the long run. It shows that a narrow focus on the amount of land under production is not an accurate measure of long-term production potential, and that addressing food availability implies factoring in the vulnerabilities linked to climate change and the costs of inaction.

The Nature4Cities project aims to develop nature-based solutions for re-naturing cities and to create a knowledge diffusion and decision support platform through new collaborative models. It tries to develop a climate resilience assessment methodology and climatic trend analysis to support municipalities in their decision-making processes. It provides a decision support guideline for climate resilience and nature-based solutions, which includes a questionnaire, a Yes/No matrix, and a collection of forms that provide information about the suggested methods and tools. The guideline has been validated through the performance of three case studies.

The Nature4Cities project aims to promote nature-based solutions for re-naturing cities. The project offers a knowledge diffusion and decision support platform through new collaborative models. The purpose of the project is to develop a typology of implementation models by identifying the barriers and drivers of these models. The outcome of the project is a comprehensive report that identifies and characterizes different governance models, financing mechanisms, business models, and management strategies for implementing nature-based solutions in European cities.

The NATURVATION project aims to assess the potential of nature-based solutions for meeting urban sustainability goals. It provides effective governance solutions for urban nature, by identifying and supporting those governance approaches that work for nature-based solutions, and by recognizing the vital roles of governments, citizens, civil society groups, and businesses in implementing these solutions. It attempts to provide a comprehensive guide that features a rich set of validated approaches that will help us develop and implement governance strategies targeted at nature-based solutions; emphasize partnership structures; and integrate technical knowledge and social sciences.

The aim of the NATURVATION project is to offer ways to understand and promote the use of nature-based solutions for sustainable urbanisation. The project has collected information on 1,000 nature-based solutions and developed an Urban Nature Atlas and an Assessment Framework to support policymakers and planners in designing and implementing effective solutions. It has identified four key categories of values that urban nature-based solutions can provide: ecological, social, cultural, and economic. It highlights the potential of nature-based solutions to address multiple objectives of urban sustainability and contribute to cross-sectoral policy goals. The project also emphasizes the importance of recognizing complementary values and stakeholders to create an optimal policy environment for nature-based solutions to reach their maximum potential.

This report presents a case study on the role of forest-based carbon dioxide (CO2) removal (CDR) as Negative Emission Technologies and Practices (NETP) and their effect on regulating, provisioning, and cultural ecosystem services in the Nordic countries Finland, Sweden, and Norway. It includes policy messages and table with impact of concrete reforestation measures.

This science-policy brief presents the current key findings of NEGEM, iIt provides science-based facts to help answer questions such as: To what extent is Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) required to achieve climate neutrality? At what scale is it feasible to implement CDR methods, given their technical, environmental, economic and socio-political aspects? How to formulate policies and governance structures to optimize the deployment of CDR within the overall climate architecture? 

This deliverable aims to provide Policy and Practice pointers for supporting policy makers, education leaders and teachers to develop a clear understanding and strategy for integrating Social Innovation Education (SIE) in formal education. SIE is an innovative, competence based educational approach that promotes a collaborative
and collective learning process for the empowerment and socio/political activation of students to drive positive change in their school and wider communities. In other words, SIE develops students into responsible thinkers and innovative problem-solvers and transforms schools into community hubs for catalysing innovative responses towards local needs.

This report evaluates the effectiveness of urban Nature-based Solutions (NBS) in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It reviews methodologies for planning and assessing the impact of NBS, emphasizing their dual role as carbon sinks and reducers of energy consumption in various urban sectors. The report also examines the broader benefits of NBS, including improvements in climate resilience, health, and biodiversity. It includes a set of key performance indicators for NBS evaluation, derived from EU initiatives and detailed in a related handbook. The report concludes with case studies showcasing the measurable impacts of NBS in urban environments.

This deliverable is a review of mitigation and adaptation policies and measures across multiple relevant sectors agriculture, forestry and fishing; biodiversity and natural heritage; energy; transport; tourism, leisure/cultural heritage; technology, information and communication; cities, urban planning and construction; finance/economy; industry and commerce; society; mining and quarrying. 

The NEWCOMERS project explores the transformative potential of new clean energy communities within the European Union's evolving energy landscape. This document offers a comprehensive analysis of the project's findings, emphasizing policy recommendations derived through co-creation processes. Key focus areas include recognizing the societal, economic, and environmental benefits of energy communities, disseminating information, creating incentives, establishing a supportive regulatory environment, and fostering networks at national and EU levels.

The OASIS project aims at innovating a new open source standard for risk assessment, improving climate modeling, damage assessment techniques, and the accuracy of models. It also seeks to operationalize an e-Market for hazard data and climate services. Its overarching goal is to support the understanding of climate risks and insurance by the wider society, ultimately helping to decrease the gap between insured and uninsured losses caused by climatic hazards.

This paper reviews the empirical evidence for effective policies from across the OECD to strengthen local economic resilience through support for people, firms and places. There is a strong need for effective policies in times of recessions, natural disasters and long-term structural change. Policies that strengthen economic resilience strongly overlap with policies for local productivity growth and vice-versa. 

This deliverable aims to provide an overview of the policy contexts for forest ecosystem services across Europe including the transnational level (EU) and national/regional levels, across different geographic types, to understand similarities and differences on how forest ecosystem services are integrated in policy.

The OntoCommons Roadmap considers needs, state of the art, gaps, definition of success and recommended actions for a number of topics contributing to an Ontology Commons Ecosystem for ontology-based data documentation across industrial application domains.
